My name is Matthieu Chaminade and welcome to my corner of the web, I am a product designer working on everyday tools and AI. I thrive in problem spaces with lots of ambiguity and love the process of working through it. Currently working at Microsoft on the Windows Design Team.

What started as a side question with the goal of experimenting with how people can interact with AI without being so reliant on a chat based prompt became a hero moment for multi-modal experiences and a new set of devices that impacts teams across Windows, Surface and Microsoft 365. This was an unfunded project (until it wasn’t) driven by a small group of folks on different teams. We made this because we believe it and we think this is just the beginning. I have been on this project since day 0 and proud of the work to get it out the door and into the hands of people everywhere.
Leading design for everything on Notepad. Experimenting with AI features like generating text from a prompt, rewriting and summarizing text based on the original content. Brought customers top user requested features such as text formatting and markdown syntax to the app.
Led the design effort to merge Snipping Tool and Snip & Sketch into a unified product for Windows 11. Modernized the experience with features like screen recording with built in flexibility to define your region.
Led design to improve overall intuitiveness for the sound recorder experience by rethinking the recording flow. Brought an end to end single track editing experience right to dev handoff but unfortunately org priorties shift and we lost funding for the feature. It still remains one of my favorite projects.
Kicking off at the start of the AI generation boom, an engineer and myself quickly put together a feature to create summaries of reviews in the microsoft store to reduce the time and effort required to get an idea of what people are saying about a specific app.
